Are standard school worksheets leaving a capable student uninspired? This course bypasses textbook drills entirely and introduces university-level mathematics by applying it to high-stakes business decisions — optimisation, risk, growth modelling and regression.

The idea

Welcome to the boardroom

Over eight weeks, mathematically able students step into the shoes of executives, venture capitalists and data analysts. From predicting elite sports performance to optimising multi-million-pound marketing budgets, they discover what advanced mathematics is actually for.

The concepts are genuinely advanced — linear programming, probability mass functions, the Poisson distribution, standard deviation, exponential growth, least-squares regression, expected monetary value. What makes them accessible is that every one arrives attached to a decision somebody really has to make.

This course does not teach children how to calculate. It teaches them how to think like analysts.

At a glance

  • Ages: 11–16 (advanced KS3 / GCSE enrichment)

How an hour runs

  • 00–10 minThe Executive Hook. An immediate, high-stakes corporate dilemma to solve.
  • 10–25 minThe Theoretical Shift. The advanced mathematical tool is introduced — along with a demonstration of why the standard school method falls short here.
  • 25–50 minThe Boardroom Simulation. Students work live through data matrices and spreadsheets to build a strategy.
  • 50–60 minThe Executive Pitch. Students present their findings and defend their calculations under questioning.

Who it is for

Built for students who are ahead

Gifted and talented students. Home-educated learners looking for rigorous enrichment. GCSE students who want to see where all of this is actually going. Anyone whose maths has become an exercise in repeating things they already understand.

What it is not is remedial support or exam cramming. Students who need to consolidate GCSE content are better served by one-to-one tuition, and I will tell you honestly which of the two I think fits.

Mathematics isn’t a list of rules to memorise — it is the ultimate strategic toolkit for decoding how the world works.
